In his Budget Statement for 2012 the Chancellor announced his intention to apply VAT to the whole of a caravan holiday home, not just the movable or loose content as at present. It is expected that this change will take effect from 1st October 2012, substantially increasing the cost of a holiday home. As an example, a model currently costing £25,000 will increase to almost £30,000 if the proposal comes into effect. Now is definitely the time to purchase new holiday homes or to upgrade existing ones.
